What we’re doing
We invite your feedback on the draft outdoor dining policy, draft outdoor dining guidelines and draft display of goods on the footway local approvals policy.
Outdoor dining
The draft guidelines set out outdoor dining areas on George Street and introduce standing at cocktail tables, shelves and bars.
Some changes have been suggested to match NSW Government changes for outdoor dining and to adopt temporary measures introduced during Covid-19. These suggested changes include:
- businesses no longer need to have indoor seating to be eligible for outdoor dining
- notification periods reduced from 14 days to 10 days
- clearances between outdoor dining and landscaping no longer required.
The 2m clear path of travel will be retained for accessibility and pedestrian comfort and safety. This was reduced during Covid-19 to enable more outdoor dining.
Displays of goods
The display of goods on the footway local approvals policy was adopted in 2020. It is required to be reviewed and re-adopted by Council. No significant changes are proposed.
Next steps
We will consider all feedback and report the results to Council. If Council approves the policy updates after public consultation, the new policies will come into effect at the end of the year.
