What we’re doing

We’re proposing changes to entertainment sound rules including requirements for venues and nearby residential developments.

The draft development control plan (DCP):

  • establishes sound management requirements for new residential developments that may be affected by entertainment sound
  • establishes sound management requirements for new and significantly altered entertainment venues
  • makes it easier for businesses to trade later with changes to trial periods.

This consultation coincides with feedback for special entertainment precincts.

List of identified venues

Existing venues identified for the entertainment sound management DCP maps. New residential development near these existing venues will be subject to the proposed entertainment sound controls.

Why we’re doing this

Our area is home to diverse nightlife, with a long history of mixed and vibrant neighbourhoods.

To support the continued growth of the night-time economy while accommodating new homes, we developed planning rules to manage entertainment sound.

Our plan complements late-night trading and provides certainty for venues while protecting their neighbours.

Next steps

We’ll report the results to the Transport, Heritage and Planning Committee.

If the changes are approved after public comment, we’ll publish the finalised plan on our website.
